It's been a while since we've shared what we're listening to, and since it changes so often, we thought it was the perfect time to write up another post! Read on for a rundown on who we've been playing on repeat for the past few weeks.
The Legend: Emmylou Harris, Red Dirt Girl
It's hard to beat Emmylou Harris in our book. She's somewhere between a teacher, an inspiration, and one of our all-time favorite female artists, sharing the title with the likes of Joni Mitchell and Susan Tedeschi. It's hard to pick a favorite album, but Red Dirt Girl has a special place in our hearts. Our favorite track? Even harder to choose, but it's going to the title track, Red Dirt Girl, this time. (Check out First Aid Kit's cover of Red Dirt Girl, too! It's beautiful, and a wonderful tribute to Emmylou.)
The Long Time Favorite: The Allman Brothers Band, Idlewild South
When we look back on our childhood, if we had to name a band that practically made up the soundtrack of our lives, it would be The Allman Brothers Band. Before we really knew who they were, we could sing along with Midnight Rider, Ramblin' Man, and Statesboro Blues, and they have influenced us in more ways than we can count. We recently purchased the deluxe edition of Idlewild South, reminding us how much we love the album. Our favorite track has to be the alternate mix of Midnight Rider; with its laid-back, acoustic feel, and the three part harmonies, it's almost like you're sitting in the room with them in the early 70s, a place we would very much like to be.
Our Newest Obsession: Liz Vice, There's A Light
Liz Vice has the kind of voice that stops you in your tracks and makes you listen. When a friend posted about her, we checked her out, and when we heard There's A Light live at Portland Soundcheck, we were hooked. She's the perfect mix of gospel and soul, and she'll keep your head nodding the whole time. We're absolutely set on seeing her live. Until then, we'll be playing There's A Light over and over.
